Ok, some comments ...
... a T2 sharpener rig leaves you with one more spare rig slot, and T2 ships have only 2 rig slots
... relic sites are in general more profitable than data sites
... make yourself familiar with the loot drops from the different pirate faction sites, some are significantly more worth than others, so you may search for those (wh is not the best place as the sites are random)
... relic exploration in certain nullsec regions with T2 analyzer and decent scanning skills nets you ~100m/h (it's my main non-PvP income source) if you invest 4+ hours per exploration session

I think Iria means T2 rigs are best for T2 ships. T2 ships only have 2 rig slots instead of 3 and I believe higher calibration. So that is what T2 rigs were designed for.
T2 ships have also 400 calibration maximum, some ships have less (e.g. Astero). But there are plenty of useful rigs fitting in only 100 calibration (hyperspatials, poly, ...).

Sansha space may be a good choice ...
My home base is Thera (the "hub" of New Eden, which connects you everywhere via wormholes ... http://eve-scout.com) and I'm flying ceptors for exploration and scouting with almost perfect scanning skills. This is IMO the maximum of freedom and convenience you can get sub T3.

Wormholes just for travel are 99% safe, in the thousand times I jumped through a hole (not looking for trouble) there was only one critical encounter I remember when by chance I found the new home of Brave's wormhole devision with a bubbled entrance and a fleet waiting for intruders, but made it back safely. Most WHs are "empty", even Thera entrances are rarely camped these days.
